Lynx Fall 2-1 Vs Mustangs

NEWTON, Mass. – Lesley University Men's Soccer squad finishes opening weekend with a 1-1 record, dropping second game 2-1 to Mount Ida Mustangs.  A cold and rainy day at Alumni Field couldn't stop Mount Ida College from picking up their first win of the year, as the Mustangs scored twice in the first half and held off visiting Lesley University 2-1 in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

Nolan Reimondo (Portland, Conn.) scored the first goal of the season for the Mustangs, and Juan Brenes (Santo Domingo, D.R.) netted the eventual game-winner less than five minutes before halftime as Mount Ida improved to 1-1, sending the Lynx to an identical record.

The Mustangs had a 6-2 edge in shots in the first half, but ended the game with just a 10-9 advantage in that category. Reimondo opened the scoring at 18:02 when he converted a penalty kick, rocketing the ball to the right of Lesley keeper David Crutchfield (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Brenes doubled the lead after he was played into space by a great flick from sophomore midfielder Adam Beaty (Middletown, Conn.). The junior striker slid the ball past Crutchfield to open his account after leading the team with seven goals a year ago.

Lesley struck back just eight and a half minutes after the break, with David Orellana controlling a loose ball off of a free kick and beating Mustang senior goalie Riley Ford (Guilderland, N.Y.), who made four saves.

Crutchfield had three stops for Lesley, who earned just one corner kick, while Mount Ida had five attempts at the corner flag.

The Lynx head to Regis College on Wednesday at 5:00 pm for their third straight away game to start the season.
