Men's Soccer Shutout on the Road at Emmanuel

Men's Soccer Shutout on the Road at Emmanuel

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Jordan Maurer (Florence, Mass.) scored one goal and assisted on another to lift Emmanuel College past Lesley University 2-0 Wednesday evening in non-conference Men's Soccer action at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints improve to 6-7-2 overall while the loss drops the Lynx to 2-10-1 on the year.

Emmanuel opened the game's scoring during the 21st minute of play as senior  Wojciech Kopacz (Garfield, N.J.) struck a corner kick into the top of the visitor's box to find the head of Maurer. Maurer redirected the ball to the feet of freshman Justin Connor (Rochdale, Mass.) who took one touch before rifling a right-footed volley into the back of the net to give EC a 1-0 lead.

The Saints made it 2-0 at the 30:07 marker of the half on Maurer's second goal of the season. Senior Jeff Allen (South Windsor, Conn.) delivered a long throw-in to his classmate and Maurer did the rest, beating Lesley junior goalkeeper James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) to give the hosts a two-goal advantage heading into halftime.

Despite owning the lead at the break, Lesley outshot the Saints 9-4 in the stanza.

The Lynx came out the aggressor in the second half of play, getting several early opportunities off of corner kicks and set pieces. Midway through the half, a Saints foul just outside the 18-yard box gave the Lynx a goal-scoring chance but the attempt by junior midfielder Angel Ruiz (Phoenix, Ariz.) was not on frame.

The Saints settled down and over the final 10 minutes of play controlled most of the action to cruise to the 2-0 non-conference win, improving their home-record this season to 6-1-2.

EC rookie keeper Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.) recorded three saves in net for his third shutout of the season. Webb also made three saves in a losing effort for Lesley.

Emmanuel returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM for a pivotal Great Northeast Athletic Conference showdown against Rivier University at home. Lesley is also back to the pitch on Saturday, heading to Elms College for a 3:30 PM NECC tilt.
