CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A second half tally from Mount Ida College sophomore Juan Brenes (Santo Domingo, D.R.) proved to be the game-winner as the Mustangs sunk Lesley University 1-0 in non-conference action this afternoon at Edward Field. The setback drops the Lynx to 0-2-0 on the season while the Mustangs start their season at 1-0-0.

Lesley will next kick-off a two-game road trip on Wednesday night when they travel to Dean College at 8:00p while Mount Ida will host Regis College with a Labor Day matinee at 1:00p on Monday.

Despite Lesley out-shooting their guests 9-4 in the opening half, neither team was able to break through in the opening 45-minutes. The Lynx had a flurry of chances early on as junior Nuno Pereira (Dorchester, Mass.) settled a free kick from senior Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) at the 18-yard box and let a shot loose that skipped left of the cage.

The Mustangs had a chance of their own in the 12^th minute of action when sophomore Alexi Flores (Central Falls, R.I.) received a thru-ball from senior Shawn Bernardo (Peabody, Mass.) and got behind the Lynx backline. Flores' attempt off the bouncing ball sailed over the crossbar, however, and the game remained scoreless.

The best scoring chance of the half came in the 17^th minute as Pereira got behind the Mustang defense and one-timed a pass from just inside midfield, but his attempt went high.

After the break, Mount Ida broke the scoreless tie in the 59^th minute. Brenes beat his defender and kept him on his shoulder before sending a left-footed drive past the diving James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) and into the lower-right corner for his first marker of the season.

The Lynx continued to pepper the Mustang cage and Pereira had another opportunity to tie it when he one-timed a ball from freshman Andrew Medeiros (Bristol, R.I.), but his right-footed attempt went just right of the far post.

Lesley held most of the possession and outshot Mount Ida 17-8 on the afternoon while holding a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks, but the hosts could not find the back of the net.

Mount Ida senior Riley Ford (Guilderland, N.Y.) made four saves in the win while Webb made a pair of stops in the loss.
