Men's Soccer Cruises to Senior Day Victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 4-1 win over Southern Vermont College in New England Collegiate Conference play this afternoon at Edward Field. The win locks the Lynx into the fourth seed for this week's NECC tournament as they improve to 8-9-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the conference. The Mountaineers finish their season with a 4-14-0 record, including a 2-6-0 mark in NECC play.

After halftime, the Lynx honored Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.), Chris Hunt (San Diego, Calif.), Tyler Zielinksi (Belleville, N.J.), Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.), Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Spencer Irwin (Somers, N.Y.), Marcel Howard (Newport News, Va.), Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.), and Ryan Garcia (North Stonington, Conn.) as the Class of 2016 with a celebration with friends and family. This group of seniors has been wildly successful on the pitch as they have qualified for the NECC Tournament in four straight years and have been invited to play in the ECAC Tournament in each of the last three seasons.

Ryan Richardson opened the scoring as he headed home a cross from classmate Tyler Zielinski in the 14th minute of play before Richardson deposited his second goal of the afternoon at 29:40 when he received a through-ball from Marcel Howard and pocketed a shot inside the lower right corner to put the Lynx up 2-0.

Just 3:30 later, junior Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) got into the scoring action as he buried his eighth marker of the season with a curling shot into the right side of the net after corralling a pass from fellow junior Wilton Zuo (Boston, Mass.).

After the break, Southern Vermont cut their deficit to 3-1 when first year Anthony Dominguez (Los Angeles, Calif.) chased down a loose ball in the box and popped a shot over Martin for his eighth tally of the year. Senior James Tschinkel (Freehold, N.Y.) was credited with the assist on the play.

Spencer Irwin extended the Lynx lead back to three goals as he capped the scoring with his first of the year. Chris Hunt sent a corner kick to the far post where Irwin was able to connect with a leaping header to give the Lynx the 4-1 edge.

Chase Donley earned the win with the start before giving way to Martin early in the second half. Donley improved to 6-7-0 on the season with the victory.
