Five First Half Goals Carry Men's Soccer Past Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University men's soccer team deposited their second straight New England Collegiate Conference win as they ran away from Wheelock College with a 6-0 win on a Sunday matinee at Winsor Field. Lesley junior Mahmoud Chabarek (Allepo, Syria) registered the first hat-trick of his career to lead the Lynx offense, which found the back of the net five times in the opening half.

Lesley improves to 6-9-0 on the season and an even 3-3-0 in NECC while Wheelock drops to 0-12 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Chabarek got the offense going early with a pair of goals at 13:26 and 17:43, respectively. Junior Rob Carey (Montrose, N.Y.) was credited with the assist on the game's opening goal while classmate Chris Anderson (San Francisco, Calif.) earned the helper on Chabarek's second tally.

The offensive barrage would continue in the first half as senior Chris Hunt (San Diego, Calif.) notched his first goal of the season as he finished a feed from fellow fourth-year Ryan Garcia (North Stonington, Conn.) at 25:29. Just 55-seconds later, Chabarek completed his hat-trick as he put the Lynx up 4-0 at 26:24.

Lesley senior Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) capped the first half scoring with an unassisted tally at 35:45. The goal was Richardson's sixth of the season, tying him for the team lead with junior Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.).

After the break, junior Colin Zeigler (Waldmohr, Germany) added his second marker of the season at 49:39 from Sidell as the Lynx rolled to the 6-0 victory. The game was called after 70 minutes of play.

The Lynx outshot their hosts by a 31-1 margin and held a 3-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.

Sophomore James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) earned his first collegiate win in between the pipes for the Lynx, making one save on the afternoon. His counterpart, Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn.), made 14 stops for the Wildcats in the loss.

Lesley will face off with Mitchell College on Wednesday at 3:00p while Wheelock will return to play on Monday when they travel to Becker College for a 4:00p start.
