Men's Soccer Blanks Becker

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's soccer team blanked visiting Becker College tonight 3-0 in New England Collegiate Conference action at Edward Field. The win boosts the Lynx to 5-9-0 on the season and 2-3-0 in NECC matches while the Hawks fall to 0-16-0 overall and 0-6-0 in the conference.

Lesley senior goalkeeper Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.) made one save to earn his first win of the season and the first shutout of his career.

Lynx junior Wilton Zuo (Dorchester, Mass.) gave the Lynx a 1-0 edge midway through the first half as he opened the scoring in the 20th minute of play. Zuo finished a cross from senior defender Marcel Howard (Newport News, Va.) to beat Becker keeper Benjamin Cadman (Harvard, Mass.) for his first tally of the season.

The Lynx offense continually peppered the Hawks cage, outshooting their guests 23-3  on the night, including a 15-1 margin in the opening half.

Zuo almost beat Cadman just one minute earlier when she unleashed a left-footed shot from the corner of the box but Cadman punched the ball away to his left. Lynx junior Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) was there to gather the rebound but his attempt sailed high.

The Hawks best attempt of the match came in the opening minutes when freshman Jeremy Ponce (Pascoag, R.I.) slipped a lead pass to classmate Jakob Franklin (Warwick, R.I.). Franklin displayed some fancy footwork to avoid a Lynx defender and put a shot on target but Martin was there to make the diving save.

Twenty minutes into the second stanza, Lesley junior Chris Anderson (San Francisco, Calif.) found the back of the net as he one-timed a bouncing ball from the top of the box and past Cadman for his first marker of the year. Classmate Colin Zeigler (Waldmohr, Germany) was credited with the assist.

Ten minutes later it was Zeigler who got into the goal column as he slid to finish a cross from Zuo inside the six-yard box to give the Lynx a three goal advantage.

Lesley will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Wheelock College for a 12:00p start. Becker will also face the Wildcats in their next match on Monday, October 26th at 4:00p.
