CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Newbury College scored a goal in each half to down host Lesley University 2-0 in a rain-soaked New England Collegiate Conference affair tonight on Edward Field. The Nighthawks improve to 7-6-0 and a perfect 3-0-0 in conference matches while the Lynx fall to 4-8 on the year and 1-2 in the NECC.

After each side spoiled scoring chances in the early goings of the first half, Nighthawks senior Emmett Dixon (Monrovia, Liberia) broke the stalemate in the 34^th minute of play. Dixon put his head on a corner kick off the foot of freshman Mario Herrera (Casillas, Guatemala) and inside the far post to put the guests up 1-0. The goal was Dixon's eighth of the season.

The Lynx nearly went ahead 1-0 in the 21^st minute when sophomore Anthony Vitta (Oceanside, N.Y.) drove down the center of the field and ripped a shot with a Newbury defender on his hip, but freshman keeper Jarrod Smith (Watertown, N.Y.) was there to stump the attempt.

The best opportunity for the hosts came with just 1:39 left in the half. Senior Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) laced a right-footed drive towards the upper-right corner, but Smith made a diving save to his left to keep the Lynx scoreless. Smith made three of his four saves on the night in the first.

After the break, the Lynx nearly knotted the match at 1-1in the 61^st minute when Chris Anderson (San Diego, Calif.) placed a ball from just inside midfield into the Nighthawk box where Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) saw his header clang off the crossbar before the Newbury backline cleared the threat.

Newbury added an insurance marker in the 67^th minute as freshman Josiah Simko (Bangor, Maine) played a flick pass from junior Ethan Forrest (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) on the heels of a Nighthawks corner kick and finished a shot from eight yards out for this third goal of the season.

The Lynx held a 9-6 advantage in shots on the night while their counterparts held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks. The match was a physical one that was marred with stoppages as the teams combined for 29 fouls and three yellow cards.

Lesley will return to the pitch on Saturday, October 17^th when they square off with Elms College. Newbury will square off with the Blazers when they return to action on Tuesday in Chicopee. Kick off for that match is slated for 7:00p.
