Men's Soccer Drops Double-OT Heartbreaker to Eagles

NASHUA, N.H. --  The Lesley University men's soccer dropped a heartbreaker to Daniel Webster College today as they Eagles scored with seven seconds left in double-overtime to down the visiting Lynx in the New England Collegiate Conference opener for both schools.

Daniel Webster senior Greg Mashburn (Charlotte, N.C.) netted the game-winner with a shot from ten yards out on the right side of the box off a pass from junior Michael Ottman (Kennebunkport, Maine). The goal was Mashburn's fourth of the season.

The Eagles were the aggressors in the two overtime periods as they held a 5-0 shot advantage in extra time, putting three of those on goal.

Lesley keeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was strong in net for the Lynx, making ten stops in the loss for the visitors.

His counterpart, senior Sean Hamilton (Brookline, N.H.), earned the win to improve to 4-2-0 as he made six saves for the Eagles.

Daniel Webster opened the scoring in the 20th minute of play as Joseano Tavares (Lawrence, Mass.) finished a feed from Chasen Congreves (Essex Junction, Vt.) to put the defending NECC champions up 1-0.

Lesley would even the score at 1-1 in the 36th minute when senior Marcel Howard (Newport News, Va.) found the back of the net for his first marker of the season. Junior Chris Anderson (San Francisco, Calif.) was credited with the assist on Howard's goal.

The two sides would play at a 1-1 score for the next 73-minutes before Mashburn's game-winner.

The Eagles outshot their guests 17-8 on the match while the Lynx held a slim 4-3 edge in corner kick opportunities. The match was filled with physicality and aggressive play as the teams combined for 52 fouls and six yellow cards in the match.

The Lynx will return to the pitch next Saturday when they continue NECC play as they head to Regis College for a battle with the Pride at 4:00p.
