Men's Soccer Falls at Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Lesley University men's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to Babson College this afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field. Beavers sophomore Justin Kaplan (Medway, Mass.) scored twice and junior Shane Mandel (Syosset, N.Y.) contributed a goal and an assist to power the Babson offense as the hosts improve to 3-1-0 in 2015. The loss drops the Lynx to 0-4-0 on the young season.

Babson seniors Tyler Carlos (Prospect, Conn.), Andrew Gonzalez (Durham, Conn.) and Telvin Lopes (Pawtucket, R.I.) all scored once for the Beavers.

Carlos got the Beavers on the board in the ninth minute, heading home a cross from Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) for his first goal of the season. Kaplan then extended the lead with back-to-back markers in the span of 66 seconds to give Babson a 3-0 lead. He put away the rebound of a shot by Carlo Araujo (Bradenton, Fla.) that was saved by Lesley senior goalkeeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) at the 32:56 mark, and then beat the keeper to a loose ball in the box and drilled a shot into the open net to complete the first two-goal game of his career in the 35^th minute.

The Beavers took a 4-0 lead into halftime as Gonzalez converted a low cross from Mandel from the edge of the six-yard box for his first goal of the year just 53 seconds before the break. Mandel, who was making his season debut, notched his first marker of the campaign in the 75^th minute, calmly burying a shot inside the far post after receiving a through ball from Araujo to make it 5-0.

Lopes capped the scoring in the 90^th minute with his header from the middle of the box off a corner kick from Cobb.

Beavers senior goalkeeper Stephen Donato (Morganville, N.J.) earned the win in the start before being relieved by classmate Tanner Click (Lawrence, Kan.) in the second half

Donley made five first-half saves for the Lynx before giving way to sophomore James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.), who also stopped five shots over the final 45 minutes.

The Lynx will return home to Cambridge on Monday night when they host Suffolk at 8:00p at Edward Field while Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to seventh-ranked Brandeis at 5:00p.
