Men's Soccer Falls to Emmanuel in Home Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's soccer team opened the home portion of the 2015 schedule with a 3-1 loss to Emmanuel College tonight at Edward Field in non-conference action. The loss slips the Lynx to 0-3-0 on the young season while the Saints even their record at 1-1 with the victory.

Saints senior David Field (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) carried the guests as he scored a goal and tallied two assists on the night.

After a scoreless first half, Emmanuel wasted little time to get on the board in the second when junior Colin O'Donnell (Killingworth, Conn.) settled a feed from Field and chipped a soft lob over Lesley keeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) to put the guests up 1-0 at the 47:53.

The Saints struck just six minutes later when Field sent a corner kick into the box that found the head of junior Jordan Maurer (Florence, Mass.) who finished the attempt to extend the lead to 2-0. The goal was the first of the season for the six-foot-four forward.

Lesley was finally able to get on the board and cut the Emmanuel deficit in half when senior Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) took advantage of a miscue by the Saints keeper at the top of the box and sent a right-footed shot into the wide open net for his second marker of the year.

The momentum from Richardson's goal did not last long, however, as Field fired a curving free kick from 22 yards out into the lower left corner of the Lynx goal just 1:11 later to put the Saints back up by two goals.

The Saints outshot the Lynx by a 17-9 margin, including an 11-5 edge in the second half, and finished the match with a 10-6 advantage in corner kick attempts.

Senior keeper Joe Russo (Malden, Mass.) picked up the win after making two saves in relief of Brendan Quinn (Colchester, Conn.), who also made two stops in 45-minutes of play in the first half.

Donley was strong in net for the Lynx despite suffering the loss. The senior made three saves for the hosts, including stuffing Emmanuel's Cian O'Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) penalty kick attempt in the 33rd minute.

The Lynx will return to action on Wednesday when they head to Anna Maria College at 7:00p while the Saints will open their home schedule on Saturday as they host St. Joseph's College (ME) at 1:00p.
