Men's Soccer Soars Past Hawks with Five Goal First

LEICESTER, Mass. – Lesley University soared past Becker College 6-1 in New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win serves as a rebound to Lesley's 4-2 setback to Daniel Webster on Saturday and moves the Lynx record to 7-5-3 (3-1-1 NECC), while the Hawks fall to 2-15 (0-5 NECC).

Lesley netted their first goal of the game at 1:49 when Erik Johansen (West Harrison, N.Y.) scored on a breakaway down the far sideline.  Johansen tallied his second goal of the game in the sixth minute on a centering pass from Claudio Velez (Pittsfield, Mass.). The sophomore forward now has an NECC-leading eight goals on the year.

The Lynx increased their lead to 3-0 when Walker Panek (Carlsbad, Calif.) scored on a one-timer near the left post on a pass from Rob Carey (Montrose, N.Y.).  Panek earned his second goal of the game in the 19th minute on assists from Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Erik Johansen. The Lynx scored their fifth goal of the half when Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) setup Tyler Zielinski (Belleville, N.J.) for a header near the left post. Zielinski's was the first of his career.

The Hawks got on the board in the 67th minute when Ryan Castro (Shirley, Mass.) fed Michael Miklos (Brooklyn, N.Y.) for his fourth goal of the season.

Lesley finished the scoring in the 71st minute when Mahmound Chabarek (Allepo, Syria) broke free down the near sideline, scoring into the bottom left of the Hawks net for his first marker of the season.

Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.) and James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) split the game in net for the Lynx. Martin didn't face a shot in the first half, while Webb made one save in the second frame.

Karl Cameron (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Matthew Castro (Shirley, Mass.) combined to make five saves in net for the Hawks.

Both teams return to the pitch on Saturday, October 25. Lesley, winners in five of their last six, will travel to Elms College at 4:00p, while Becker will play host to Mitchell College at 1:30p.
