Men's Soccer Win Streak Snapped by Eagles

WESTON, Mass. – Daniel Webster College scored two goals in the final six minutes to break a 2-2 tie and beat Lesley University 4-2 in New England Collegiate Conference action this evening in Weston, Mass. The win pushes the Eagles to 10-4-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the NECC while the Lynx fall to 6-5-3 on the year and 2-1-1 in conference play.

Sophomore Ian Hutchinson (Litchfield, N.H.) settled a flick pass from senior Joey Morgan (Windham, N.H.) inside the box and beat Lesley keeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) for what turned into the game-winner at 84:13. With just eight seconds remaining in the match, sophomore Nathan Misidi (Atlanta, Ga.) gave the Eagles an insurance tally as he found the back of the net to lift Daniel Webster to their sixth straight win.

The Eagles found the back of the net twice in the first half to take a 2-0 into the break. Freshman Aaron Esparza (Dover, N.H.) put Daniel Webster on the board first in the 22nd minute of play. The rookie forward carried the ball past the Lynx backline and into the right side of the box before sending a right foot blast into the nearside of the goal for his seventh tally of the season.

Sophomore Michael Ottman (Kennebunkport, Maine) put the Eagles second tally on the board at 29:33 as he got his head on a free kick from just inside midfield by Morgan.  The goal was Ottman's fifth of the season.

The Lynx clawed back in the second half to tie the match at 2-2 following a pair of goals from senior Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.). In the 53rd minute of play, Santos drilled a free kick into the upper right corner from 25 yards out to pull Lesley to within one. Twelve minutes later he knocked in his second of the match as he headed home a corner kick from sophomore Anthony Vitta (Oceanside, N.Y.).

The match was evenly played as each side finished with ten shots and two opportunities from the corner. The two teams combined for 34 fouls and four cautions on the afternoon.

Lesley will return to the pitch on Tuesday as they travel to Becker College for a 4:00p start. Daniel Webster will also be back in action on Tuesday as they will seek their seventh straight victory when they host Wheelock College at 4:00p.
