Two Second Half Goals Extends Men's Soccer Win Steak to Four

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action this afternoon with a 2-0 win over Newbury College. Lynx junior Walker Panek (Carlsbad, Calif.) netted the game-winner for the visitors in the 48th minute of play to power past the Nighthawks. Lesley, winners of four straight, improves to 6-4-3 overall and 2-0-1 in NECC action while Newbury drops to 3-10-1 and 1-2-0 in the conference.

Three minutes into the second half, the Lynx offense finally broke through to find the back of the net. Coming up the nearside, junior defender Marcel Howard (Newport News, Va.) connected with Panek on the far-side post to put Lesley on top 1-0. The goal was Panek's second of the season.

Just under four minutes later, sophomore midfielder Chris Anderson (Daly City, Calif.) connected for the first goal of his collegiate career for an insurance goal. Seven yards in front of the net, junior forward Ryan Richardson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) knocked a header towards Anderson who banged the ball past Newbury keeper Woodjerry Dieudonne (Dorchester, Mass.) to give Lesley the 2-0 cushion.

Lynx keeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was note forced to make a save in the shutout. The junior now has five shutouts in 2014, the third most in a season in Lesley men's soccer history. \

Lesley outshot the hosts by a 9-5 margin while also holding a 4-2 edge in opportunities from the corner. It was a physical match throughout as the teams combined for 28 fouls and four cautions.

The Lynx will look to extend their winning streak to five matches on Saturday afternoon when they host Daniel Webster College at 4:00 p.m. in Weston, Mass. on the campus of Regis College.
