Santos' Tally Gives Men's Soccer Second Straight Win

Santos' Tally Gives Men's Soccer Second Straight Win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University senior Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) netted his first goal of the season to power the Lynx to a 1-0 win over Anna Maria College tonight at Edward Field in non-conference action. The second consecutive shutout and win for the Lynx improves their record to 2-2 on the season while the AMCATS fall to 1-3 overall.

Santos settled a feed from sophomore Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) inside the box and put a left-foot shot inside the far post, beating AMC keeper Patrick Thornberg (Wayland, Mass.) to give Lesley the early 1-0 advantage. The assist for Sidell was the first in his collegiate career.

The goal would prove to be all the offense the hosts would as they continued to pepper the AMCAT net, but were unable to put another tally on the board.

Lesley dominated possession throughout the night  as they outshot Anna Maria by a 15-2 margin. Lesley's best chance to cushion their lead came off a corner kick from freshman Anthony Vitta (Oceanside, N.Y.) that found senior Herbin Berreondo (Brighton, Mass.) at the top of the box. Berreondo fired a right-footed shot that sailed just over the crossbar to leave the match at 1-0.

Lesley outshot their counterpart by a 15-2 margin on the evening and held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. Seven of those corner kicks came in the second half.

Thornberg was excellent between the pipes for the AMCATS, stopping a career-best seven shots while allowing just the lone goal.

Lesley keeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was credited with his second straight win to improve to 2-2-0 on the year, making one stop on the night.

Lesley will return to Edward Field on Thursday, September 11th when they welcome Emmanuel College to Cambridge at 8:00p. Anna Maria will continue their five-match road-swing on Saturday, September 13th as they travel to Mt. Ida to open up GNAC play at 1:00p.
