#5 Men's Soccer, #4 Regis Ready for NECC First Round Battle

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The fifth-seeded Lesley University men's soccer team (8-7-2, 3-3-1 NECC) will travel to fourth-seeded Regis (7-8-2, 4-2-1 NECC) for a first round matchup on Wednesday, October 30th at 7:00pm. The winner will meet top-seeded Elms on Friday in a semifinal game.

Scouting Regis:
Regis finished the 2013 regular season on a five-game winning streak, capturing the 4th seed in the NECC.  First year defender Marek Kotecki leads the way with 4 goals followed by first year forward Don Gomez who's tallied 3 goals and an assist on the season.  Senior goalkeeper Stefan Todorovic started 12 games finishing with a 1.53 goals against average and 3 shutouts.

 

Scouting Lesley:
Lesley had its two game winning streak snapped with a 1-0 loss at Mitchell College on Tuesday.  First year forward, Erik Johansen leads the way with 13 goals and an assist and is recently coming off of a four goal performance against Elms College.  In goal, senior Nathan Trucks gives the Lynx defensive strength posting a 7-4-2 record with 36 saves in 12 starts this season.  Trucks also boasts a 0.90 goals against average and has recorded 3 shutouts.

 

Previous Matchups:
Since the 2010 season, Lesley is 4-0-1 against the Pride including a 1-0 win in last year's NECC Semifinal matchup.  In their last meeting, Lesley jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ryan Richardson in the 33rd minute.  Fourteen minutes later, Regis responded as Marek Kotecki netted the equalizer for the Pride.  The teams went back and forth finishing in a 1-1 tie after playing two overtime periods.

 

What's at stake:
The winner of the match will travel to top-seeded Elms College (9-8, 5-2 NECC)for the NECC Semifinal Round which will be on Friday, November 1st. Lesley topped Elms with a 4-2 win, thanks to four goals from Erik Johansen while Regis dropped a 3-0 decision to the Blazers in their regular season matchup.
