Johansen's Hat Trick Lifts Lynx Past SVC

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University freshman Erik Johansen (West Harrison, N.Y.) continued his torrid start to the season, notching his first hat-trick of his collegiate career in a 6-0 win over Southern Vermont College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action today at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. Johansen netted all three of his goals in the first half, opening the scoring just 31-seconds into the game and his others in the 21st and the 43rd minute, respectively.

With the win, the Lynx open up NECC play at a perfect 1-0-0 and improve to 5-3-1 on the season. The Mountaineers fall to 1-7-0 with today's setback and 0-1 in conference action.

After going into halftime with a 3-0 lead, the Lynx came out flying in the second half as junior defender Ray Cohen (Coventry, Conn.) notched his first goal of the season in the 47th minute. Cohen headed in a cross from classmate Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.), who was credited with his second helper of the day, to give Lesley a 4-0 edge.

Senior midfielder Josh Weinert (Newark, Calif.) and freshman forward Mahmoud Chabarek (Allepo, Syria) each netted the first goals of their collegiate career to round out the scoring for the Lynx.

Southern Vermont junior Brenden Shea (North Providence, R.I.) and sophomore Chris Dunham (Valley Falls, N.Y.) split time in net for the Mountaineers. Shea made three stops in the opening half while Dunham was credited with one save in the second.

For Lesley, senior Nathan Trucks (Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.) teamed up for the shutout, each making one save.

The Lynx held a 24-3 advantage in shots on the afternoon and had the edge on corner kicks by a 4-1 margin.

Lesley will be back in action on Saturday, September 28th when they travel to Regis College for a NECC tilt starting a 3:00p. Southern Vermont will also be back in conference action on the 28th when they host Daniel Webster College at 3:00p.
