Men's Soccer Comes Back, Tops Eastern Nazarene

QUINCY, Mass. -- The Lesley University men's soccer team ruined Eastern Nazarene's season-opener as the Lynx were on the winning side of a 3-1 decision Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Lions sink to 0-1-0 on the fall while the Lynx remain unbeaten and improve to 2-0-1 with the win.

The Lions opened the scoring in the 16th minute, claiming a 1-0 lead. Rookie Jacob Mason (Middletown, R.I.) blasted a shot from the top of the penalty box and into the left side of the cage. Providence Mbabazi (Portland, Maine) picked up an assist on Mason's first collegiate tally.

The visitors owned a 5-3 advantage in shots in the first half while also earning all five corner kicks awarded.

Lesley knotted the match at 1-1 in the 49th minute as junior tri-captain Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) found the back of the net, firing home a free kick from 30 yards out.

The Lynx then grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 66th minute as freshman Erik Johansen (West Harrison, N.Y.) slotted his first goal of his collegiate career into the net from the top of the six-yard box. Classmate Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) recorded an assist on the score as he lofted a pass to Johansen from the left wing.

Lesley tacked on its third goal of the game as Johansen netted his second of the day when he floated a shot over the Lions' goalkeeper and into the right side of the cage in the 86th minute.

The visitors finished the game with 18 shots while Eastern Nazarene fired nine. Eastern Nazarene earned one corner kick in the match and conceded seven.

Junior Jake Johnson (Mount Bethel, Pa.) stopped six shots between the pipes for the hosts while Lynx keeper Nathan Trucks (Guilford, Conn.) made one save to register his second victory of the season.
