NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men’s
soccer team dropped a 1-0 conference match-up to Lesley University
on Saturday afternoon.
Lesley (12-3-2 overall, 4-1-1 NECC) scored the game’s only
goal in the 60th minute off a set play on a corner kick. Ari
Sinanis (Guilford, Conn.) took the corner and served a ball to the
far post, where Stephen Siragusa (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished it
off with a header into the back of the net.
Mitchell (4-8-0 overall, 2-2-0 NECC) tried earnestly to tie the
game in the final 30 minutes, but Lesley’s defense was solid.
The Mariners’ best chance came with 20 minutes to play when,
following a scrum in front of the net, a loose ball trickled along
the goal line. The Lynx, however, cleared the ball away from danger
before a Mitchell player could get a touch.
Lesley held a 17-11 advantage in shots for the contest. Sophomore
goalkeeper Kevin Woodford (Clinton, Conn.) made eight saves for the
Mariners while Zach Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) had four for
the Lynx.
Mitchell returns to action at Salve Regina on Thursday, October 22
at 3:30 p.m. Lesley will next host Daniel Webster College on
Tuesday, October 27 at 8 p.m.
