Johnson State victorious over Lesley 2-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In a meeting with one of their former conference opponents from the North Atlantic Conference, the Lesley University men's soccer team fell to Johnson State College 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.  The loss dropped Lesley's record to 2-3-0 while Johnson won their first game of the 2008 season.

Badgers midfielder John Sabau (Romania) bent a corner kick just inside the far right post of the net past Lynx keeper Sonny Ljutica (Rexford, N.Y.) to give Johnson State the lead at 9:42.

With less than two minutes until the end of the first half, Zach Lees (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.) was taken down inside the goalie box by Lesley defender Zach Rocha (New Bedford, Mass.) and was granted a penalty kick.  Rocha was given a yellow card on the play.

With just the keeper to beat, Lees directed the ball right while Ljutica guessed in the opposite direction to give the Badgers the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Johnson State was able to maintain pressure on the Lesley defense for the rest of the game and the Badgers walked away victorious.

Senior keeper Andy Lane (Charlotte, Vt.) finished the game with five saves for the Badgers.

Lesley will be back in action on Tuesday night at 8 pm against Emmanuel College at home.  Johnson State will host Paul Smith's College on Monday night.
