Lesley battles Mitchell, honors Monty

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The men's soccer team tried hard to send off senior Mark Montgomery (Leeds, ENGLAND) with a win in his last home game in a Lynx uniform, but fell to Mitchell College 2-1.

The only goal of the game for the Lynx came in the 8th minute of the game when Tyler Reeves (Coventry, Conn.) scored off an assist from Nick Wilkins (Lincoln, Mass.).  After a defensive double-team from Sam Mead (Worthing, ENGLAND) and Wilkins gave Lesley the ball, Wilkins aggressively brought the ball into Mitchell territory.  He crossed the ball right to left, finding Reeves wide open who then fired the ball past Mitchell keeper Gian Camardella (Norwich, Conn.) to the right corner of the net.

Later in the first half, Mitchell tied up the game when midfielder Josh DaSilveira (Milford, N.H.) crossed up his defender and blasted a shot to the left side of the goal past Lynx keeper Michael Jack (Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA).  He was assisted by junior striker Josh Griffo (Higganum, Conn.).

The best chance for the Lynx to take the lead came when Camardella was drawn out of the net to help his own defenders and Reeves lifted a shot over the misplaced goalie but a defensive back was there to head the ball away.  Lynx midfielder Zach Rocha (New Bedford, Mass.) followed up the rebound with a kick just wide left of the net.

Mitchell finally put the game away in 63rd minute when David Eddy's (Middlebury, Conn.) shot deflected off new Lynx goalie Rob Kotzen (Needham, Mass.) and rolled to the back of the net.

"Tough loss tonight, but I can't say enough of what a tremendous job Mark Montgomery has done for this team," said head coach Paul Vasconcelos.  "He has meant so much to the growth and success of this team over the past two years.  We are going to miss him."

With the loss, Lesley drops to 6-8-1 (3-4 NAC) on the season.  The Lynx have two games remaining on the schedule, at Curry College on October 22 and at Becker College on October 24.
