Men's soccer end of year recap

The Lesley University men's soccer team made history in 2006 fielding the first ever men's soccer team. Despite a season that was heavily affected by injuries, Head Coach Paul Vasconcelos' squad of 14 first year players worked together to lead LU to a 3-13-1 overall mark and 2-6-1 in conference play just missing the NAC tournament by one result.

Up front, freshmen Steven Monteiro (Shelton, Conn.) led the Lynx attack with 5 goals and 2 assists in 15 games. The Shelton, CT native was quite reliable in the clutch, scoring two game-winning goals for the Lynx. Lone senior Brain Aderer (Acton, Mass.), a transfer from RIT gave the Lynx much needed experience in the midfield. Imad Elkatrib (North Quincy, Mass.)  gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from the Lynx attack in the future, notching three points on a goal and an assist in only 3 matches in the field. Elkatrib as a keeper led the North Atlantic Conference in total saves and saves per game with over 130 shots saved in conference play.

In the middle of the park, sophomore Sam Mead and freshmen Evan Hunt (Cambridge, Mass.) paced a solid Lynx midfield corps. Both players provided an offensive spark as Mead, a sophomore from Worthing, England, registered a goal and two assists in 15 games while Hunt chipped in with steady work rate in the middle of the pitch.

The Lynx defense was anchored by the freshmen trio of Alex Bixby (Francestown, N.H.), James Boursiquot (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Scott Wheeler (East Hampton, Conn.) who interestingly enough led the team in scoring with 6 goals. Jherry Etienne (Roslindale, Mass.) also contributed to the Lynx attack, notching 3 goals one of which was match winner. Junior captain Mark Montgomery (Leeds, ENGLAND) was the heart and sole of the team and acted as player/coach at times.

The Lynxs' play in 2006 did not go unnoticed as, Monteiro was selected to 2nd NAC All-Conference team. The Lynx only lose one player to graduation and are looking forward to a bumper crop of players in their 07' recruiting class.  "This is going to actually be our first full year recruiting as a staff, we are really working hard to bring in top prospects from all over the Northeast," said Head Coach Paul Vasconcelos.

With the 2006 season now in the past the Male Lynx look to the future and welcome the 2007 season with great anticipation.
