Hot Shooting Continues as Men's Basketball Cruises By Wheelock

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University saw all five starters finish in double-figures, led by a game-high 19 from senior Devon Mayo (Newport News, Va.) as the Lynx cruised to a 90-66 victory over Wheelock College in New England Collegiate Conference action tonight at the Nicholas Athletics Center.

Lesley's hot shooting continued as they connected on better than 50% from the field for the second straight game and improve to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in NECC action. Their nine wins is the most for the program since the 2012-13 season when they finished 9-16 overall.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 5-7 on the season while they suffer their first blemish in conference play, falling to 2-1 in the NECC.

Mayo finished 5-of-8 from the field and 8-of-9 at the free throw line to go with four rebounds and a pair of assists on the night while sophomore Xeo Golding (Windermere, Fla.) added 17 points and a trio of boards. Fellow sophomore Joey Martin (Melbourne, Fla.) and senior Pierre St. Simon (Farmingdale, N.Y.) combined for 22 points – 11 each – and 15 rebounds while St. Simon also dished out five assists from the low block. Junior Marquise Johnson (Hampton, Va.) added ten points, five caroms, and five helpers in the win and freshman LaMarr Mitchell (Baltimore, Md.) came off the bench to provide nine points. First year Treyvon Trent (Virginia Beach, Va.) added seven points in reserve duty.

Lesley held advantages in nearly every statistical category as they held Wheelock to just 35% (22-of-62) shooting on the night, compared to their 55% (33-oof-60). The Lynx also held a 40-32 rebounding edge and outscored the Wildcats 50-16 in the paint. The hosts were also able to get out in transition, holding a 16-2 advantage in fastbreak points. The Lynx also set season-highs with 24 total assists and seven blocked shots.

Wheelock was powered by senior guard Nicholas Fenton (East Hartford, Conn.) who filled the stat sheet with 17 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Fellow senior Anthony Williams (White Plains, N.Y.) finished with a team-high 18 points – 14 of which came in the second half – to go with seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. Classmate Derek Fournier (Johnston, R.I.) knocked down a pair of three's on his way to eight points and Devin Brown (Chicago, Ill.) came off the bench to pour in eight.

Both sides will be back in NECC action on Thursday. Lesley will hit the road to Elms College for a bout with the Blazers at 7:00p while Wheelock will play host to Mitchell College at 8:30p.
