NASHUA, N.H. – Daniel Webster's Rondell Best (Brockton, Mass.) notched 17 points and eight rebounds and Jared Harrington (Upper Marlboro, Md.) picked up a career-high 15 points with five assists as the host Eagles topped the Lesley University men's basketball team, 79-66 in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup Tuesday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
The Eagles (7-7) improved to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play while the loss dropped Lesley to 2-14 on the year and 1-6 in the NECC.
Ray Farmer (Nashua, N.H.) aided the DWC offense with eight points and eight rebounds, while Donny Powell (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added seven points off the bench.
Terrell Toney (Lakewood, Wash.) posted 17 points to lead the Lynx, while Chris Barletta (Valrico, Fla.) added 14 and seven caroms. Corbin Polec (Okemos, Mich.) notched 11 points and Pierre St. Simon (Farmingdale, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points and nine boards.
DWC outrebounded the Lynx 52-36 and shot 50-percent on the night including 54-percent in the second half. The Eagles also outscored Lesley 42-20 in the paint and posted 34 points off the bench. The Lynx struggled from the field, hitting on just 32% of their attempts from the floor.
Lesley's only lead came on the opening two minutes and DWC took control of a three-point game (15-12) at the midpoint of the first half using a 15-0 run sparked by five points from Best and two treys from Angelo Adon (Silver Spring, Md.) to open up a 30-12 lead just five minutes later. The hosts led 38-22 at the break.
The lead hit its high mark at 22 (44-22) after another Best inside move 1:28 into the second before Lesley chipped away whittle the lead down to 14 three times, the last on a Barletta layup to make it 54-40 with 11:05 left.
But DWC answered with another quick 10-4 run with a layup from Best and three at the line from Harrington and Lesley pulled no closer than 11 in the final seconds.
Lesley will be back in Cambridge on Thursday for another NECC tilt when they host Newbury College at 8:00p. The Eagles remain home to face NECC foe Becker on Thursday at 7:00 p.
