Salve Uses Late First Half Run to Down Men's Basketball

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University junior Nicholas Bates (Danvers, Mass.) posted a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Seahawks past the Lesley University men's basketball team 77-52 in non-conference action at the Rodgers Center on the SRU campus.

The win brings the Seahawks to an even 2-2 on the young season while the Lynx drop to 0-4 in 2015-16.

Three others Seahawks joined Bates in double-figures for the hosts. Sophomore Bryce Boggs (Hyde Park, Mass.) finished with twelve points while senior Barrett Hanlon (Hopkinton, Mass.) and sophomore Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass.) added 14 points apiece. Salve was hot from the floor all afternoon as they hit on nearly 50-percent of their shot attempts on the day, including knocking down 5-15 from beyond on the arc.

Junior Jacob DiDomenico (N. Providence, R.I.) paced the Lynx attack with 13 points and eight assists in 24 minutes off the bench. Freshman Xeo Golding (Windermere, Fla.) also added 13 points to go with five boards and a pair of assists. Junior guard Devon Mayo(Newport News, Va.) finished with eight points and grabbed six caroms while senior Casey Blanchard (Bernardston, Mass.) knocked down two triples on his way to six points in reserve duty.

The offense started off slow for both sides as each team missed their first three shots. Boggs ended the drought with a layup that sparked a 10-3 run for the Seahawks. With 9:40 left in the first, Boggs would knock down a pair of free throws to extend the lead to 19-10.

The Lynx would finally find their stride as back-to-back DiDomenico buckets ignited a 9-4 spurt to bring the guests back to within four, 23-19.

That would be as close as the Lynx would get as Salve opened up the game with an 18-4 streak to close out the first and take a 41-23 lead into the break before rolling to the 77-52 win.

Lesley will return back home on Monday when they host Emerson College in another non-conference tilt at 8:00p.
