Men's Basketball Falls to RWU in Season Opener

BRISTOL, R.I. – Lesley University senior Justin Rosa (East Brunswick, N.J.) led all players with 21 points but the Lynx fell to host Roger Williams University 74-45 in game one of the RWU Courtyard by Marriot Season Opening Tournament. The Lynx will return to action tomorrow at 1:00p as they play Suffolk University, who fell to Fitchburg State in game two of the evening. The Hawks and Falcons will square off for the tournament championship at 3:00p.

Rosa knocked down 3-of-8 from deep and went 4-of-5 from the free throw line on the way to his 21 points and led the team with six boards and three assists. Sophomores Terrell Toney (Lakewood, Wash.) and Fabrice Louissaint (Everett, Mass.) each chipped in with six points while senior David Hersey (Wolfeboro, N.H.) came off the bench to score five for the visitors.

The Hawks balanced offensive attack that saw 11 different players score was led by senior Ryan Palumbo (Warwick, R.I.) who finished with 12 points while freshman Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in with ten points in his collegiate debut. Junior Leonardo Atkinson (Nantucket, Mass.) came off the bench to score eight points and grab ten boards. Junior Trevor Fahmy (Bedford, N.H.) led all players with eleven caroms, including five on the offensive glass.

Roger Williams, who never trailed on the day following a 25-0 run to start the contest, held a distinct 49-23 rebounding advantage and grabbed 14 offensive rebounds that led to 14 second chance points. The Hawks also shot an impressive 53-percent on the day while holding the Lynx to just 27-percent.

Following the season opening tournament, the Lynx will open their home schedule on Tuesday, November 18th when they host Endicott College at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. Tip-off is set for 8:00p.
