Kaufman Advances, Needs Dark Horse Dunk Votes in Round 2

CHICAGO, Ill. – Voting for Round Two of the 2014 "State Farm Dark Horse Dunker" competition is now open and runs through March 3, State Farm and Intersport announced today. The winner of the competition will compete in the Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships live on ESPN. The eight remaining finalists hail from schools outside the national spotlight and possess the leaping ability, creativity, and power to compete against college basketball's stars in the Slam Dunk Championship. Fans determine the winner by voting daily on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/CollegeSlam) throughout the five-week competition.

Kaufman defeated Eastern Michigan's Glenn Bryant in Round One and will be pitted against another Division I entrant, Marcus Lewis of Eastern Kentucky University.

The "State Farm Dark Horse Dunker" is a bracket-style elimination competition. Voting began Feb. 10 with 16 finalists. Round Two features four head-to-head matchups featuring the Round One winners. Voting for the Semi-Finals begins March 3 and voting for the Finals begins March 10. The champion will be announced March 17 and compete in Dallas on April 3. The Round Two matchups are:

  • Mike Kaufman (Lesley University) vs.Marcus Lewis (Eastern Kentucky University)
  • Jordan Adams (Western State Colorado University) vs. Kevin Anthony (Lycoming College)
  • Justin Simmons (University of Nebraska Omaha) vs. Brison White (Northwestern State University)
  • Kenny Williams (Angelo State University) vs. Jerran Young (Wright State University)

Previous "State Farm Dark Horse Dunker" winners include Corey Law (High Point University) in 2013, James Justice (Martin Methodist College) in 2012. The 2011 winner, Jacob Tucker (Illinois College), went on to win the Slam Dunk Championship.
