MILTON, Mass. – The Lesley University men’s
basketball team lost to Curry College 69-64 on Monday night,
despite getting 21 points from Jermaine Harris (HAVERHILL,
Mass./Haverhill) and solid contributions from their bench
players. The Lynx dropped to 2-7 on the season while Curry improved
to 3-6.
Harris scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the second half of
the game. He sunk 9-of-14 shots from the field including 2-of-4
from long range. Harris also tallied eight rebounds, six steals,
and two assists.
Lesley’s Alex Green (BATON ROUGE, La./Robert E.
Lee) and Jonathan Cruz (HAVERHILL,
Mass./Haverhill) came off the bench to score 12 and 10
points, respectively. Both guards combined to hit 62.5% (10-of-16)
of their shots.
Curry jumped out to a 34-25 halftime advance thanks in part to 13
points scored by A.J. Stephens (STAMFORD,
Conn./Westhill) in the period. Stevens would end up with
17 in the game to go along with 15 rebounds. The Colonels also got
double-digit point contributions from Mark Mastrullo
(BILLERICA, Mass./Billerica), Rodney Bennett
(MATTAPAN, Mass./Newton North), and Chris Bonadies
(MEDFIELD, Mass./Medfield) who had 15, 13, and 10 points
apiece.
Down 10 points at halftime, the Lynx clawed back into the game and
trimmed Curry’s lead to just one point on three separate
occasions. A steal and layup by Lesley’s Cruz put the score
at 57-56 with 3:42 remaining but that is the last time the Lynx
would come close to tying the score.
The Lynx outscored the Colonels 42-26 in the paint and 24-7 off the
bench. Lesley also forced 22 turnovers compared to 16 by Curry. The
Colonels held the advantage in rebounding, however, at 43-32.
Lesley next travels to UMass Boston on Thursday, December 10 for a
7:00 pm game with the Beacons.
