CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Lesley University men’s basketball team went on a 21-4 run late in the second half against Wheelock College Thursday night but it was not enough as the Lynx were only able to trim the Wildcat lead to nine points in the final minute.

Lesley dropped to 6-11 (3-3 NECC) while Wheelock improved to 11-6 (4-3 NECC) with the victory.

Lesley’s Alex Green (BATON ROUGE, La./Robert E. Lee) led the offensive surge with 12 of his 18 points. Green’s 18 points were a team-high and the senior also recorded five steals and three assists.

Wheelock amassed a 27-point lead with less than six remaining in the game thanks to 22 points and 14 rebounds from Sherard Robbins (MALDEN, Mass./Malden). Six of Robbins’ 14 rebounds were on the offensive glass and were surely part of Wheelock’s 18 second-chance points.

Complementing Robbins were Dan Main (HOPEDALE, Mass./Hopedale) and Max Kaim (FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla./Cypress Bay) who scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.

For the Lynx, senior Matt Grassa (EVERETT, Mass./Everett) scored 14 points off the bench on 3-of-5 from three-point range and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Grassa also dished out four assists and had a steal.

Wheelock dominated the paint, outscoring Lesley 44-20 while the Lynx had the advantage in points off turnovers (29-22) and bench points (21-8).

Lesley returns home on Saturday, January 30 to face Mitchell College at 7:00 pm.
