Captain Mark Stevens earn NAC Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University men's basketball team went 2-0 this week with outstanding performances by senior captain, Mark Stevens (Las Vegas, Nev.).  His relentless efforts earned him the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors for the first time in his collegiate career at Lesley.

In the two conference match ups, Stevens averaged 23.5 ppg, 5.5 rbg, 2.0 spg and 58.1% from the field.

The team played a double header in Maine this past weekend, beating Thomas College Friday in overtime, then defeating UMaine Farmington on Saturday.  Mark Stevens was 11-of-16 from the floor, hit 5-of-6 free throws, grabbed 3 rebounds, and scored a game-high 29 points against Thomas as he dominated the 87-81 overtime victory.  During the UMaine Farmington game, Stevens was the leading scorer for the second game in a row with a team-high 18 points, along with 8 rebounds, a steal and an assist in the 64-57 win.

"Over the past few weeks, Mark Stevens has clearly proven that he is one of the best players in our conference," said Head Coach Scott Willard.  "His outstanding efforts on both sides of the ball have played a large part in our recent four game win streak.  This is exactly what we expected from our captain at the most important time of the year."

The two wins capped off a four game conference winning streak, giving the team the second place seed going into the NAC playoffs.  Lesley will host the first round match against Castleton State College this Tuesday night, February 26 at 7 p.m.
