THE LEAD – Lesley University picked up an important North Atlantic Conference (NAC) sweep Saturday afternoon over Thomas College to move into sole possession of second place in the East Division following a 7-3 and 14-4 wins over the Terriers at Minuteman Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • Lesley jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a first inning solo shot by James Brandon, his team-leading seventh HR of the season.
  • Brandon doubled in his second at bat in the third and came around to make it 2-0 on an RBI single from Colby Jacobs to put the Lynx ahead, 2-0.
  • The hosts opened things up in the fourth behind a three-run blast by Ian Dempsey to bump the lead to 5-0 before a two-RBI triple from Jacobs moved the edge to 7-0 midway through the action.
  • Dylan Langston was in control on the mound through the first four innings for LU until the Terriers got on the board in the fifth on an RBI single by Tony Meza to avoid a shutout.
  • Thomas wasn't done, adding a pair in the sixth with the final run coming on a sac fly by Jason Barlett to account for the 7-3 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Brandon and Jacobs paced the Lynx with two hits each while Jacobs and Dempsey chipped in with three RBI each in the win.
  • The HR for Dempsey was his first of the year and second of his collegiate career.
  • Langston earned the win to improve to 5-1 on the year, going 6.0 innings and scattering eight hits while striking out three.
  • Evan Swift closed the door with a scoreless seventh four his fourth consecutive scoreless relief appearance.
  • Matt Seymour and DJ Cagnina lead TC with two hits each.
  • Andrew Pruell took the loss for the Terriers, his first of the year, to drop to 5-1.
  • The win was Lesley's 11th straight, a new program record for the longest winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • Trailing 4-0 through four, the Lynx rallied to plate 14 unanswered runs to complete the Saturday sweep of the Terriers, 14-4.
  • The comeback began in the fifth when Lesley batted around for six runs on seven hits to pull ahead 6-4, midway through the game. Justin Dennett got LU on the board with a two-RBI double to cut the deficit in half at 4-2. An RBI single by Owen Kalagher made it a one-run game, knocking in Dennett to move the needle to 4-3. Jacobs delivered the go-ahead hit with a single up the middle to give Lesley its first lead of the game at 5-4 and then Adam Budorick knocked TC starting pitcher from the game with an RBI single to left to account for the sixth run in the frame and 6-4 score.
  • Lesley kept its foot on the gas in the sixth to pad the lead to 9-4 as Kalagher drove in two more runs with a two-out two-RBI single to center making it 8-4. He came around to score on another Brandon double to give the home squad a five-run cushion heading into the late innings of the contest.
  • Thomas loaded the bases in the seventh but Andrew Gryniewic worked out of the jam to retired the side and keep it a five-run lead.
  • The Lynx blew it open in the bottom half of the frame, pushing four more runs across the plate to take a 13-4 lead. Kevin Dorsey picked up a two-RBI single in the frame and the Lynx took advantage of a pair of Terrier errors.
  • LU tacked on its final run in the eighth as Boone Scherer came in to score on a wild pitch.
  • Early in the action, Thomas got a quick start with a three-run first thanks to a costly Lesley miscue resulting three unearned runs. Samuel Keblinsky picked up an RBI in the frame.
  • In the fourth, the Terriers made it 4-0 on an RBI single to left by Hayden Dippner before the Lynx mounted the comeback with 14 unanswered runs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)

  • Kalagher and Brandon both picked up four hits in the win while Dempsey added three.
  • Brian Jacobus earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief to improve to 2-1 on the year.
  • The Lesley pen combined for five scoreless innings of work with Gryniewic, Jaedon Harris, and Jesus Moscat all closing the door with scoreless innings in the win.
  • Garrison Paillet falls to 0-3 on the season with the loss allowing six runs on nine hits over 4 and 1/3 innings of work.
