THE LEAD – Lesley University used a three-run sixth inning two-out rally to launch past Wentworth Institute of Technology in a 4-3 final for the program's 10th consecutive victory on Wednesday evening in NCAA Division III baseball action at Minuteman Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trailing 3-1 through five innings of action, Roy Lenhard came on in relief to work the top of the sixth, retiring the side in order and set the stage for the Lesley rally.
  • In the bottom of the frame, Justin Dennett led off with a single to right and moved into scoring position on a sac-bunt by Owen Kalagher. The Leopards got the second out quickly via the K before Colby Jacobs walked to put the tying runs on base with two away. Adam Budorick delivered a clutch RBI single up the middle to drive in Dennett to cut the deficit to 3-2. Jacobs and Budorick moved up to second and third on a wild pitch before Jake Samela came up with the go-ahead two-RBI single to center to put the hosts on top for good at 4-3.
  • The Lynx bullpen was nails the final three frames as Lenhard retired the side in order again in the seventh followed by a dominant eighth inning appearance by Patrick Teasdale who recorded a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless frame.
  • Evan Swift came on to close the door in the ninth, also working a clean frame with a pair of K's to earn his second save of the season.
  • The Leopards opened the game's scoring in the third on a ground-rule RBI double to right by Christian Roncal to put WIT ahead, 1-0.
  • The visitors doubled the lead to 2-0 in the fourth on an RBI single down the left field line by Nick Cullinan but Lesley matched the run in the bottom of the stanza on an RBI single to center by James Brandon, making it a 2-1 game.
  • In the fifth, Wentworth added its final run of the night on an RBI double down the left field line by Christian Peruzzi to move the advantage to 3-1 and set the stage for the Lesley rally.
