THE LEAD – Sophomore starting pitcher Roy Lenhard threw 7.0 strong innings and senior first baseman James Brandon belted a three-run homer to power Lesley University over Fredonia State, 8-6, Tuesday morning in NCAA Division III baseball action in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lesley broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth, taking the lead for good as senior Colby Jacobs scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch to put the Lynx on top, 3-2, midway through the action.
  • LU padded the lead in the sixth with two more runs on an RBI single by Adam Budorick and an RBI sac fly by Justin Dennett to bump the lead to 5-2 as the game transitioned into the late innings.
  • Brandon opened things up with a three-run blast to centerfield to give the Lynx a comfortable 8-2 cushion in the eighth.
  • The homer would prove to be huge as the Blue Devils rallied for four runs in the ninth, highlighted by a three-RBI double down the left field line by Garrett Stuckey to make it an 8-6 game but Lesley senior Evan Swift came on to record the final out with a K for the save, preserving the 8-6 Lynx win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Lenhard recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work, scattering three hits and allowing just two earned runs to improve to 2-0 on the year.
  • Budorick finished the day going 3-for-4 with two RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
  • Brandon's HR was his first of the year and fourth of his career.
  • The save for Swift was the first of his collegiate career.
  • Through six games, the 5-1 start is the best start in program history for LU.
