THE LEAD – The Lesley University baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Stevenson University Sunday afternoon to take the three-game weekend series from the Mustangs to open the 2024 slate. The Lynx posted a 9-5 win in first game of the double-dip before shutting out the hosts, 10-0, in game two for the sweep at the SU East Campus Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • The hosts jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, manufacturing a run in the first inning without a hit but the Lynx answered with a four-run top of the second to take the lead for good in the opener. An RBI triple by Colby Jacobs tied the score at 1-1 before he came around to give Lesley the lead on an RBI single up the middle by Kevin Dorsey. Dorsey made his way around the bases and crossed the plate on a two-RBI single up the middle by Adam Budorick to account for a 4-1 score early on.
  • Stevenson got one back in the third on an unearned run and then made it a one-run game in the fifth on another Lynx miscue to move the needle to 4-3 but the Mustangs ran themselves out of the inning, getting caught stealing at third to keep it a one-run Lynx lead heading into the later frames.
  • Lesley used that momentum in the six, putting up a five-spot to open things up to a 9-3 score. The Lynx collected five hits in the frame including RBI singles from Owen Kalagher, Ian Dempsey, and Justin Dennett.
  • Stevenson made some late noise with a pair in the seventh but Noah Terzo closed the door, recording the final six outs to preserve the 9-5 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • James Brandon, Jacobs, Dorsey and Dempsey paced the Lynx with two hits a piece while the latter trio also each scored two runs in the win.
  • Logan Watts earned the victory working 4 and 2/3 innings on the bump allowing three runs (one earned) on just two hits while striking out six.
  • Jaedon Harris recorded a clutch out to retire the side in the fifth for a hold in his first appearance on the hill in 2024.
  • The victory was the first collegiate Head Coaching win for LU skipper Don Gilbert.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • LU sophomore starting pitcher Roy Lenhard tossed six shutout innings to power the Lynx to a 10-0 win in Game 2 of the twinbill in Owings Mills, Md. The southpaw scatted five hits while striking out three for his first collegiate pitching victory.
  • Following little action in the firs two innings, Lesley gave Lenhard all the support he'd need with two runs in the third to open the scoring on a two-RBI double down the left-field line by Brandon.
  • The visitors bumped the lead to 5-0 with a three-run fourth that included two steals of home by A Gryniewic and Caden Shott.
  • Lesley piled on four more runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach at 9-0 and added the final run of the afternoon in the seventh on an infield RBI single by Jacobs to account for the 10-0 final before the game was called due to darkness.
