Lynx Swept by Mitchell in Doubleheader

GAME OVERVIEW:

NEW LONDON, CT. – The Lesley Lynx Baseball team were swept by the Mitchell Mariners in a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, losing game one 11-1 and game two 9-0. The Lynx drop to 13-20-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the NECC, while the Mariners advance to 22-7 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

INSIDE GAME 1:

  • The Lynx had a chance to score early, with Justin Dennett tripling in the top of the first inning, but they could not jump on the opportunity and Mitchell pounced on them an inning later. The Mariners scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning, with RBI hits coming from Justin Adorno, Hunter Yaworski, and Bo Yaworski.
  • Mitchell had another big inning in the fourth. Matt Falk was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in a run and John-John Jose followed him up with an RBI single. Adorno collected his second and third runs batted of the game in later in the inning with another run scoring base hit.
  • Dennett scored in the top of the sixth inning for Lesley's only run of the day, doubling and being driven in by Ronnie James. Dennett had two of only four Lynx hits in game one.
  • Chris Gibbs moved to a perfect 5-0 on the season after five shutout innings with six strikeouts. Jacob Nemergut took the loss for the Lynx, allowing six runs in three innings.

INSIDE GAME 2:

  • The Mariners did most of their damage in one inning in game two, scoring six times in the bottom of the fourth. Angel Galindez drove in a run with a bases-loaded single that re-loaded the bases for Bo Yaworski. Yaworski cleared them again with a double, then scored on a base hit by Dougie Delacruz.
  • Mitchell added two more runs late on singles by Jose and Lelo Martinez to make it 9-0. The Lynx were unable to get any offense going, only recording three hits and drawing a single walk and hit batter.
  • Eddie Kaftan got the win for the Mariners, shutting down the Lynx with a shutout performance. He struck out six Lesley batters. Patrick Teasdale took the loss, going four innings and allowing seven runs with six walks.
