Lynx Swept by Lasell With Two Late-Inning Losses

GAME OVERVIEW:

WALTHAM, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Baseball team dropped both game of a doubleheader to the Lasell University Lasers on Monday afternoon, losing the first game 4-1 and the second game 4-3 in extra innings. The Lynx are fall to 13-18-1 overall, while the Lasers move up to 15-14.

INSIDE GAME 1:

  • Jacob Nemergut and Matthew Fletcher both put up excellent performances in a game on pitching duel. Lasell broke through first in the bottom of the third inning, getting their first run on a single by Matthew Bischof to drive in Bryan Baumann.
  • Lesley tied the game in the top of the sixth on a double by Adam Budorick to score Tyler Washington. Andrew Gryniewicz led the sixth off with a base hit, which was actually the first Lynx hit of the game. After grounding into a fielder's choice and stealing second, Washington came in to score on the Budorick double, which ended up being Lesley's only other hit of game one.
  • Lasell broke it open in the bottom of the sixth with a home run by Bischof to tie the game. He was followed later by a two-run double by Devon Lapierre to make the Laser lead 4-1. Vaun Larisa came in to close the door on the Lynx and pick up his third save of the season.
  • Fletcher earned the win, allowing only the one run on two hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Nemergut took the loss, though still pitched will, allowing four earned with five Ks.

INSIDE GAME 2:

  • The Lynx wasted no time getting ahead in this one, though they did so without recording a hit. In the top of the first, Justin Dennett drew a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a groundout by Ronnie James for a 1-0 Lesley lead.
  • Ian Spillane added a second run for the Lynx in the fourth. His base hit allowed James to score after he singled to lead off the inning. Lasell got the run back and cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth, with Ross Audet driving in Lapierre on a groundout.
  • In the top of the sixth, the Lynx took their two-run lead back with James involved once again. His sacrifice fly to centerfield sent Dylan McDonald home and put the Lynx back up 3-1.
  • The Lasers would not go quietly, tying the game in the bottom of the seventh and sending the game into extra innings. Baumann got things started with a triple to right center, then scored on a wild pitch with Audet at the plate. Bischof smashed his second homer of the day later in the inning to tie the game at 3. The game would last until the ninth inning, when Spencer Murphy walked it off on a fielder's choice that allowed Lapierre to cross the plate as the winning run.

The Lynx travel to Mitchell College for NECC conference action on Saturday April 23rd, with the first game of the doubleheader beginning at 12 PM.
