Lynx Lose First Game to Eastern Naz, Rain Results in Game Two Tie

GAME OVERVIEW:

WINCHESTER, MA. – The Lesley Lynx Baseball team failed to beat the Eastern Nazarene Lions on Saturday evening, but did not come up empty handed. Eastern Nazarene took game one 14-1, but terrible weather resulted in a 6-6 tie in game two. The Lynx are now at 13-16-1 this season and 1-4-1 in the NECC, while the Lions move to 16-13-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the conference.

INSIDE GAME 1:

  • Both teams got one run in the first inning, then took very different paths through the rest of the game. Tyler Bean led off the game with a walk, then scored on a double by Frank Landeiro to put the Lions up 1-0. The Lynx tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Ronnie James to score Adam Budorick.
  • From there, it was all ENC. Two bases loaded walks and a single by Brandon Guerrero gave them four runs in the fourth, then hits by Juan Jacobo-Lopez, Ethaniel Almendare, and Bean contributed to a five run fifth. Anderson Jimenez drove in one more in the sixth with a double and Shane McNamara drove in two in the seventh with a triple, then scored on a hit by Jaime Roldan.
  • Jon Tessier was fantastic for the Lions, bringing his season record to 7-0 with the win. He allowed only the one run on four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.

INSIDE GAME 2:

  • The Lynx bats got going early in game two, making for a more competitive matchup. Adam Budorick led off the game with a strike out, but reached base on a dropped third strike by Roldan. He scored later on a double play groundout by Cal Caruso.
  • Lesley added four more runs in the second inning. Budorick drove in Matthew Ceruti with a base hit, then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by James Brandon. Dylan Langston followed that up with a single that drove in Justin Dennett, then Andrew Gryniewicz added a single of his own to load the bases. Colby Jacobs drew a bases loaded walk to force in Caruso and make the Lynx lead 5-0.
  • Steve Pesce got one back for the Lions in the third inning on a single to drive in Frank Landeiro. ENC brought home two more runs in the fourth on a base hit by Jimenez and sac fly by Bean to bring the score to 5-3. Gryniewicz took a run back for Lesley on a single to score Caruso in the bottom of the fourth, an inning that ended with Lions pitcher Morgan Weast's ejection.
  • The top of the sixth brought severe wind and rain to the field, but the Lions managed to tie the game. Christian Rapoza allowed a two-run triple to Bean, then sent a pitch to the backstop that allowed Bean to score. After the Lynx were unable to score in the bottom of the inning, game two was called due to weather at a 6-6 tie.
