AUBURNDALE, FL -- Lesley University earned its first win of 2012 with a 3-2 win over MCLA before dropping a 7-4 decision to the Trailblazers in Game 2.
John Gosnell went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBI's in the victory. In his Lynx debut, freshman Tyler Plourd went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Peter Plansky knocked home the eventual game-winning run on a sacrifice fly.
"Obviously today was a huge day for our program," said head coach Mike Rocco. "Being able to go out and get a win early in spring ball, it takes a lot of pressure off the guys, especially after what we went through as a first year program," said the second-year coach, whose team went 0-28 a year ago.
"Especially (veterans who) can say they were a part of this, it's big for the team so they can compete up north."
On the mound, the same lefty who started the Lynx first-ever NCAA game a year ago won the program's first a year and two games later.
Sophomore southpaw Ryan Genua went the distance, striking out three, scattering seven hits and forcing a comebacker for the win.
In the Game 2 loss, Robert Parson and Ray Cohen each totaled two hits and drove in two in the 7-4 loss.
Lesley returns to play on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. against New Jersey City College.
