Women's Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setbacks to Husson & UNE

THE LEAD – Lesley University dropped a pair of women's volleyball matches on Saturday, falling to Husson University in NAC play, 3-0 (25-7, 25-17, 25-8) before falling to University of New England in non-conference action, 3-0 (25-6, 25-10, 25-5). The Nor'Easters topped the Eagles in the middle-match of the tri, 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-15).

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Husson)

  • Lesley jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the opening frame before Husson responded with six straight points to set the tone for the set behind the strong service game of Cam Schweitzer.
  • The Lynx scored back-to-back points capped by a service ace from Emma Welch to cut the deficit to 10-4 before the Eagles put together a 13-1 run to pull away in the frame to post a 25-7 win in the first set.
  • In similar fashion to the opener, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the second set and kept the lead at 2-1 after a kill by Renee Hatch before Husson took over the lead for good on an ace by Alyvia McIntyre to start a 5-0 flurry by the visitors.
  • The Lynx put up a solid fight in the set, trailing only by three (15-12) after a kill by Rayann Fatahi and ace from Welch but Husson closed the set strong to take the 2-0 advantage on the match.
  • The Eagles proved to be too much for Lesley in the final stanza. After keeping things close early, Husson rattled off 13 consecutive points to pull away in the 25-8 finale.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (vs. Husson)

  • Sinead Thomas paced Lesley with a season-high four kills, hitting a season-best .444 in the action.
  • The nine assists for the Lynx was a season-best with Estephany Morales dishing out a team-high three.
  • The 17 points scored in the second set matches the second-highest point total for the Lynx on the season, coming just two points shy of their best single-set performance this year.

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. UNE)

  • UNE raced out to a 13-1 start to the match to set the tone for the action, hitting .500 as a team in the frame to breeze to a 25-6 win over LU.
  • Lesley led 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3 in the early goings of the second set but the Nor'Easters regrouped and closed the set outscoring the hosts 22-6 down the stretch run to command a 25-10 win.
  • University of New England opened the third set with six straight points behind the strong service game of Ellijah Hanley, using the early lead to cruise to a 25-5 win to secure the match, 3-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (vs. UNE)

  • The Nor'Easters hit .468 as a team in the win, holding Lesley to a -.212 performance.
  • Jillian Bender led all players with 11 kills in the win for UNE.
  • Fatahi recorded six digs for the Lynx to share the match-high.

  • Lesley returns to action on Wednesday, October 11 for a 8:00 PM home tilt vs. Anna Maria College in non-conference action.
  • Both Husson and UNE are back on Thursdays, October 12 as the Eagles host Maine Maritime Academy in Bangor, Maine in a North Atlantic Conference showdown while the Nor'Easters welcome Curry College for a CCC affair in Biddeford, Maine.
