Lynx can't capitalize on early victories in 5-4 loss to Becker

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- All six Lynx secured victories in their opening sets, but only three held on to win the match and secure a point, as Lesley dropped a tight 5-4 decision to Becker in women's tennis action.

Courtney Mullen won in first singles in the closest of battles, topping Becker's Megan Nessen 7-6 (7-3), 7-6, (7-0). Brenna Donovan and Hagar Memlies also earned victories in singles play for Lesley, but Katie Side, Michelle Side and Nicole Smith couldn't hold on after capturing their respective opening sets by three or more points a piece.

In addition to topping Becker's Jessica Burdick in singles action, Donovan teamed with Smith to best Lianna Woodbury and Courtney Johnson in third doubles in convincing fashion, 8-0. Donovan and Smith's win was Lesley's lone doubles victory, as the Lynx fell for the first time in 2010.

Now 2-1, Marty Morrissey's team continues NECC play, traveling to Becker on Wednesday.
