Women's tennis wins first-ever match, 7-2

NEWTON, Mass. - The Lesley University women's tennis team competed in their first ever match Saturday morning and defeated Mount Ida College, another first-year program, by a score of 7-2.  The Lynx begin their history at 1-0, under Head Coach Marty Morrissey.

All of Lesley's victories in both singles and doubles match were in straight sets as the Lynx only lost one singles match and one doubles match.

In singles play, winners included number one Courtney Mullen (SPRINGFIELD, Ore./Marist) winning 6-1, 7-6 (7-2), number three Brenna Donovan (HINGHAM, Mass./Hingham) winning 6-4, 6-4, number four Nicole Smith (RINDGE, N.H./Dublin School) winning 6-2, 6-0, number five Caroline Cingari (STAMFORD, Conn./Westhill) winning 6-1, 6-1, and number six Emily Lapean (MONTAGUE, Mass./Turner Falls) winning 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, the number two combination of Mullen and Jillian Zingale (HUNTINGTON, N.Y./Harborfields) won 8-2 and the number three duo of Lily McCausland (MAD RIVER VALLEY, Vt./Harwood Union) and Cingari won 8-1.

Lesley next travels to Johnson State College on September 12 for a 1:00 pm match, looking to continue their early season success.
