CAMBRIDGE, MA. -- Last week, Lesley Women's Soccer senior captain Claire Hounslow was voted the 2022 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Hounslow was selected from a group of four student-athletes, determined by a vote of the NECC's Athletic Directors.
On the field, Hounslow helped lead the Lynx to three consecutive NECC titles over her career. She served as a captain in her senior season, a campaign that saw her win NECC Player of the Year and be named to the All-Tournament team after capturing the title. In conference play, Hounslow scored three goals with six points, while her overall totals were nine goals and nineteen points, both good for second in the conference. She finished the season with seven game-winning goals to lead the NECC while being named to the All-Conference First Team. Hounslow previously earned All-Confernce honors in her sophomore season.
Hounslow's winning case was bolstered by her achievements in the classroom and in her community. A Psychology major, she achieved a 3.8 GPA over her four years and was named to the Dean's List every year of her collegiate career. She also made the NECC All-Academic Team in each of her eligible semesters as a student-athlete with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher. Hounslow was dedicated to the success of her fellow student-athletes and served on the board of the Lesley Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She was the Women's Soccer SAAC representative and used the opportunity to flex and enhance her leadership skills while promoting communication and positive relationships between student-athletes and the campus community. In addition to her SAAC position, Hounslow interned in the Lesley Athletics office helping to construct a pilot program for student-athlete Mentorship.
Outside of athletics, Hounslow was deeply involved in her community. Along with her teammates, she participated in the Mass Ave. and Porter Square Clean Up for two years. She worked with a non-profit called Gaining Ground in Concord that distributes fresh produce to meal programs and food banks throughout the Greater Boston area. Finally, Hounslow also worked with The Fairy Godmother project, an organization that provides formal dresses to the region's disadvantaged youth, offering one-on-one assistance to help individuals find their dream dress.
Hounslow made an indelible mark on the Lesley community, both as an athlete and as a human being. She will acrry on her great works to Springfield College next fall, where she will begin working on a master's in Sports and Exercise Psychology.
