Lynx Fall to Nationally Ranked MIT

GAME OVERVIEW:

CAMBRIDGE, MA. -- The Lesley Women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season to the nationally ranked MIT Engineers on Friday night by a score of 6-0. The Lynx fall to 4-1-1 this season, while the Engineers advance to 3-0-1.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • The Lynx came up against a tough opponent, as MIT was ranked seventh in the NCAA DIII National Preseason Poll. Lesley was able to slow a strong offensive team through most of the first half, though Mia Sedgwick was able to put a goal in off an assist from Natalie Barnouw.
  • Sedgwick and Barnouw connected again in the second half, with Sedgwick picking up the brace in the 53rd minute. The Engineers took control from there, scoring four more goals for a total of five in the second half.
  • Barnouw picked up her third assist in a row about a minute and a half later, this time helping Stephanie Howe score. Brigette Wang scored for MIT in the 72nd minute before Barnouw added to her incredible night with a goal of her own. Alexis Spinetta added the final Engineers score of the night in the 85th minute.
  • The Lynx were only able to get one shot off in this one, coming from Sophie Smurthwaite. MIT put up ine shots on goal and Audrey Calhoun was only able to save three of them, earning her first loss of the season. Lauren Castle picked up her second win in net for the Engineers.

The Lynx are back in action tomorrow, Saturday September 11th, for a 1 PM matchup at Suffolk University.
