SOMERVILLE, MA -- Lesley women's soccer opened 2012 with a 2-0 win at Suffolk Friday afternoon in non-conference play at Dilboy Stadium.
Forward Alexis Giusti found the back of the net for the second season opener in a row. Following a scoreless first half, the sophomore took a cross from senior Jamie Coyne and scored on a header to put the Lynx up 1-0 early in the second.
"It was a free kick, a long ball to the back post and Lexi headed it in," said Coyne.
As Giusti did a season earlier, freshman Melinda Robinson scored in her first game with the Lynx, adding an insurance goal that made it a 2-0 final.
Sophomore Emileigh Lloyd anchored the Lynx in net, making three saves over 86-plus minutes of scoreless goalkeeping before freshman Jackie Berard closed out the shutout in the final 4:16.
"It was a strong first game," added Coyne, whose Lynx outshot the Rams 23-5.
Lesley takes Saturday off, resuming non-league play at Mount Ida on Sunday at noon. The Lynx return for the team's home opener on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. against Eastern Nazarene.
