THE LEAD – Gordon College Softball welcomed the Lynx of Lesley University for a doubleheader where the Fighting Scots defeated the visitors in both games by scores of 5-4 and 5-2 to secure the sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • The Lynx leapt out to a quick 2-0 start in the top half of the first and held onto the slight edge until the fourth inning. The first run of the action came on a double-steal where Isabella Moscoso swiped home. The second run was in similar fashion with another double-steal attempt, this time resulting in an out as well as a run scored by Kari Sorensen.
  • In the fourth, the Fighting Scots' came around to score four times thanks in large part to a two-run shot off the bat of Jayden Johnson as well as a two-run double from Abby Murray.
  • Lesley knotted up the scoreboard in the following inning on a two-run blast by Emma Hodgkins, but the Murray stayed hot and drilled a triple to right center field, scoring teammate Samantha Perkins to lead 5-4 and secure the eventual victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Lesley outhit the Scots by a 9-8 margin as Hodgkins, Moscoso, MJ Jones and Leah St. John all collected two hits apiece for the Lynx.
  • The HR for Hodgkins was her second of the year.
  • Murray, Perkins and Liahna Messier had two hits each for GC.
  • Emily Graham picked up the win in the circle to move to 6-8 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • Ami Rivera singled to lead off the bottom of the first and eventually came around to score to put Gordon out front, 1-0.
  • In the bottom of the third, Johnson picked up right where she left off with a solo shot over the right field fence to make it a two-run game.
  • After a walk from A. Rivera, the junior baited the Lynx's defense into a rundown, allowing Perkins to score from third base (3-0). The stealthy base runner continued to cause havoc for the Lynx, running all the way to third on a stolen base thanks to a Lesley throwing error to put her 60 feet from another Gordon run. Next batter up, Sierra Ricci stepped up to the plate and hit a single up the middle to score A. Rivera, bringing the score to 4-0 after five innings of play.
  • Gordon tacked on another run in the fifth (5-0), before the Lynx scored twice in the top of the sixth to cut the Scots' lead to three runs (5-2) after a towering two-run homer by Jones.
  • Lesley loaded the bases in the seventh to put the tying run on base following hits by Hodgkins, Moscoso and a walk by Jones but the Fighting Scots were able to retire the side for the home sweep.

  • The Lynx once again outhit the hosts, this time by an 8-7 margin.
  • Moscoso and St. John both had two hits again for LU.
