THE LEAD – Framingham State University used a four-run first to power past visiting Lesley University, 12-2, Thursday afternoon in NCAA Division III softball action at Maple Street Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Rams took control of the game with four in the bottom of the first. Shelby Roode walked with the bases loaded and Marina Cadena followed with an RBI single. Eliza Carignan walked with them loaded and Haley Jensen added an RBI fielder's choice. 
  • The Rams used an RBI double from Roode in the bottom of the second extending the lead to 5-0, but the Lynx plated a run the top of the third cutting the deficit to 5-1. Madison Herbert lead off the inning with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and came around to score on an RBI single to left by Emma Hodgkins.
  • The Rams added four more in the bottom of the inning including a two run triple from Kelsey McGuill pushing the lead to 9-1. 
  • Lesley plated their second run of the game in the top of the fourth as Leah St. John worked a leadoff walk and came around to score on a FSU miscue but the Rams added three in the bottom of the inning including an RBI triple from Gwendolyn Carpenter to reach the final score. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Caroline Hughes earned the victory in the circle going three innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts.
  • Hodgkins suffered the setback in the circle despite recording four strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.
  • Herbert threw well in relief, working a scoreless fourth inning.
  • Carpenter paced the Rams with a 3-for-4 game with two RBI and two runs scored.

UP NEXT

  • Lesley returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Quincy, Mass. to take on Eastern Nazarene College in NAC play starting at 12:00 PM.
  • Framingham State heads to UMass Boston the same day for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
