THE LEAD – Curry College used the combination of strong pitching and the long ball to defeat visiting Lesley University, 2-0 & 6-3, Tuesday afternoon in NCAA Division III softball action in Milton, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

  • Jillian Rogers quieted the Lynx bats tossing a complete-game one-hit shutout to lead the Colonels to a 2-0 win. The hurler was dominant, recording 12 K's in the win to improve to 6-8 on the season while the complete-game was her 10th of the slate
  • Curry gave Rogers all the run support it would need in the third inning as Mary Rodrigues lead off the inning with a walk, stole second and third and scored on a bunt single by Renee Gonnevill to put the hosts on top 1-0.
  • The Colonels got an insurance run in the sixth as Rogers helped her own cause with a solo home run to right field to bump the lead to 2-0.
  • The Lynx did threaten in the sixth as MJ Jones was hit by a pitch before Leah St. John worked a two-out walk to put the tying runners on base but Rogers worked out of the jam to preserve the shutout victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)

  • Samantha Mecklenburg was the tough-luck loser for Lesley, working 5.0 innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out two.
  • Gonneville collected three of the Colonels four hits in the win going 3-for-3 with the RBI.
  • Sydney Cole collected the only LU hit in the game, a single in the second inning.
  • The Lynx were shutout for just the second time all season while the Colonels posted a shutout win for the fifth time this year.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)

  • Lesley threw the first punch to open the nightcap, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Jones delivered a bases load single to drive in a pair and make it 2-0 before St. John collected an RBI to move the score to 3-0.
  • The lead was short-lived as Rogers gave Curry the lead with one swing of the bat, belted a first-inning grand slam to slip the script to a 4-3 score in favor of the hosts.
  • The score stayed locked at 4-3 until the sixth when once again, Rogers went yard with a two-run shot to give the Colonels a 6-3 cushion late in the game which proved to be the final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)

  • Rogers finished the game going 2-for-2 with two HR, six RBI, two runs scored and a walk, accounting for every run in the CC win.
  • St. John paced Lesley with a 2-for-3 performance, driving in a run.
  • Kari Sorensen, Isabella Moscoso, Jones and Cole also collected hits in this one as the Lynx out-hit the Colonels by a 6-5 final.
  • Caitlyn Wood earned the win for Curry going the distance and scattering the six hits while allowing just one earned run, striking out four.
  • Madison Herbert threw well in a 2.0 inning relief stint, allowing just one hit over the two scoreless innings for LU.
