THE LEAD – First year Dawson Romito made a splash in his collegiate cross country debut with a first place finish at the Jim Sheehan Invitational on Saturday, September 2 in the Men's 8K event in the first race of the 2023 campaign for Lesley University.

LESLEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Romito bested the men's field of 42 runners with a time of 29:26.1 on the 8K course, running mile splits of 5:55 for the Lynx and finishing the race four seconds ahead on the second place finisher.
  • In the women's 5K race, Lesley junior Hannah Nangle posted a third place finish in her season-debut. Nangle finished the opener with a time of 21:42.7 with mile splits coming in at 6:59.
  • Sophomore Olivia Colby opened the year with a 23rd place finish, crossing the finish line in 28:24.3 while sophomore Raffaella Vogt rounded out the Lesley racers with a 30th place finish and a time of 30:27.8.

WINNING PERFORMANCES

  • Skye Goba posted a first place finish for the host Falcons on the women's track with a time of 20:50.4. Despite the individual win, Fitchburg finished second in the team standings coming in behind Framingham State who won the women's team event with 21 points.
  • Romito becomes the first Lesley's men's cross country runner to record an individual race win since the 2013 NECC Cross Country Championships when Nick Green won Runner of the Year honors with his first place finish at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass., finishing first in the 8K race with a time of 27:07.
  • The host Falcons captured the men's team win on the day with 21 points with five members from the squad finishing in the top-10 of the race.
