Hendrix Powers Eagles Over Lynx in Season Finale

Hendrix Powers Eagles Over Lynx in Season Finale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Daniel Webster College sophomore Joel Hendrix (Kane'ohe, Hawaii) buried five aces to go with his four kills and three digs to lead the Eagles over the Lynx, 3-0. The scores of the sets were 25-20, 25-18, 25-7. Daniel Webster moves to 14-11 overall and 9-2 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) while the Lynx end their season going 0-19 and 0-12 in conference play.

Freshman Jose Vargas (Lawrence, Mass.) had a match-high seven kills for the Eagles while classmates Ariel Frias (Lawrence, Mass.) and Tyler Little (Marlboro, Mass.) each finished with five, hitting .625 and .556, respectively.

Sophomore Herbin Berreondo (Brighton, Mass.) had five kills for the Lynx while Spencer Irwin (Somers, N.Y.), Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.), Makenzie Lukas (Reno, Nev.), and Jess Cherry (Lancaster, Pa.) all finished with two apiece.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the first set behind solid serving from Vargas and two kills from Little. Keeping the lead at bay, the Eagles led 22-16 before letting the Lynx crawl back into. Lesley scored on three Daniel Webster errors and got kill from Irwin to score four of the next five points, but couldn't come all the way back as the set ended with a serving error from Cherry, giving the Eagles the 25-20 set win.

Daniel Webster used another quick start in the second set, grabbing an 8-2 lead off the service of Vargas and junior Joe Walz (East Longmeadow, Mass.). Lesley then went on a run, scoring seven of the next 11 points to cut the Daniel Webster lead to 12-9. The Eagles broke the momentum, and briefly took back control to hold a 15-11 advantage. The Lynx would recover and make another run behind Irwin's serve, rattling off five in a row to take their only lead of the night 16-15. From there, it was all Eagles as they scored ten of the next twelve points and closed out the set on a 4-0 run for a 25-18 second set victory.

Daniel Webster kept that momentum going as the third set was completely in their control. The Eagles grabbed a 15-3 lead, due in part to three explosive aces from Hendrix and rolled to a 25-7 third set win.

Before the match, the Lynx honored senior Sean Randall as it was his last game in a Lesley uniform. Randall ends his season leading the Lynx with 134 digs and is atop the NECC leaderboard and ranked sixth in the nation with 2.85 digs per set.

Daniel Webster will close out their regular season on Saturday, April 6th at 1:00p when they host NECC foe, Elms College.
