Scarlet Raiders Sweep Lynx at Springfield Invite

Springfield, Mass. – Rutgers-Newark freshman Chris Kopacz (Rutherford, N.J.) finished with a match-high eight kills while classmate Cody Chidsey (Bath, Pa.) registered seven as the Scarlet Raiders swept the Lynx, 3-0, with sets of 25-6, 25-10, and 25-9 at the Springfield Invitational hosted by Springfield College. Rutgers-Newark improves to 3-14 on the year while the Lynx fall to 0-16.

The Scarlet Raiders hit an incredible .762 in the first set, on their way to a .467 percentage for the match. Freshmen Jeremy Kelly (Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Kevin McCandless (Leesburg, Va.) each had four kills while classmate Adrian Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) had a match-high 25 assists and nine kills.

Leading the way for the Lynx was Herbin Berreondo (Brighton, Mass.) who had a team-high five kills while freshman Jess Cherry (Lancaster, Pa.) and junior Makenzie Lukas (Reno, Nev.) each had three. Senior Sean Randall (Fremont, Calif.) recorded a team-high five digs.

Lesley, who dropped a 3-0 decision to Southern Vermont earlier in the day, will play Sage College tomorrow at 10:00a.
