Mountaineers Top Lynx in Springfield Invite Opener

Springfield, Mass. -- Southern Vermont took down the Lynx, 3-0, with game scores of 25-9, 25-8, and 25-8 in the opening match of the Springfield Invitational hosted by Springfield College.

The Mountaineer attack was spread out as eight players recorded kills, three with five apiece: sophomore Joey Dighton (Riverside, Calif.), freshman Caleb Odom (Redlands, Calif.), and sophomore Anthony Contreras (Norwalk, Calif.). Southern Vermont recorded nine service aces on the match, Odom accounting for three of them. Junior Anthony Barahona (Eagle Rock, Calif.) had a team-high eight digs, and Odom rounded out his match with a team-high five block assists. Junior Pierre Massena (West Milford, N.J.) had four block assists to go along with a service ace and two kills.

Junior Makenzie Lukas (Reno, Nev.) led the Lynx with five kills while classmate Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) registered four on the night. Senior Sean Randall (Fremont, Calif.) had a team-high eight digs and freshman Jess Cherry (Lancaster, Pa.) led the team with six assists.
